Hurricane Matthew. It's coming. This was set to be a Cat 4 hurricane, heading straight for us. I wasn't really worried until all of my friends started to get worried. I went to the store and bought lots of snacks and supplies. We stocked up on batteries, filled the cars with gas, and had lots of frozen water and water bottles ready to go. Our Harry Potter closet held bicycle helmets and all of our candles and such.
We were as ready as we could be. School was closed. It hit Thursday night/ Friday morning. It was an eerie thing, because Thursday was such a beautiful day. Hours before the first band hit, the kids were out riding their bikes.
Just to be safe, we all slept on the bottom floor. The kids slept on air mattresses in the library. Steve and I slept on the couch. Ethan slept in his room and Allison in the office.
We slept with the tv on. It was supposed to get bad in the middle of the night. We had the news on all night and I was awake to hear that the storm had shifted east and we were going to be ok.
This was the view Friday morning afternoon. Strange thing.
The millipedes came out in force. Thousands of them covered our driveway.
Despite relatives urging us to evacuate, we knew what was best and stayed put. At the end of the day, we did have a small roof leak in Allison's room, but that was about it.
Whew! That was an adventure.
